Hace poco leí un artículo que hablaba sobre cómo algunos profesores están usando la tecnología de maneras inteligentes y creativas que están involucrando a los estudiantes. Alan November, un experto en tecnología de la enseñanza, contó a 300 maestros y administradores cómo usar wikis, podcasts, blogs y otra tecnología en la clase.

Esta es una de las cosas que estamos intentando hacer con Pancho y Pita: escribir historias excelentes y educativas envueltas en un paquete tecnológico que lo haga atractivo para los niños. No es fácil, pero cuando se hace bien puede proporcionar grandes resultados, tal y como muestra el artículo.

I recently read an article that talked about how some teachers are using technology in smart, creative ways that are really getting students involved. Alan November, an education technology expert told 300 teachers and administrators about how to use wikis, podcasts, blogs, and other technology in the classroom.

This is one of the things we are trying to do with Pancho & Pita: to write great educational stories and wrap them up in a very attractive technological package for children. It is not easy, but when done right it can yield great results, as the article found.

Estaba leyendo en una revista que en los Estados Unidos, según el Centro Nacional de Estadísticas de Educación, 67 por ciento de los niños en edad preescolar usa computadoras. ¡67 por ciento! Es decir, 2 de cada 3 niños. No se cuántos de estos niños leen también libros normalmente, pero parece que en la actualidad, si se quiere enseñar algo a los niños hay que contar también con las computadoras.

I was reading in a magazine that in the US, according to the National Center for Education Statistics, 67 percent of preschool kids use computers. 67 percent! That’s 2 out of every 3 kids! I don’t know how many of these kids read books regularly, but it seems to me that if you want to educate kids these days, you have to count on computers too.

Hace poco leí que el presidente-electo Obama quiere invertir 10.000 millones de dólares en educación preescolar. Sólo puedo decir: “Wow!”. Aún queda por ver cuánto de eso se lo comerán los banqueros o quién sabe. Pero incluso si una fracción de eso se utiliza para ese importante pero olvidado objetivo, tendré que decir: “Gracias, presidente Obama”.

I recently read that president-elect Obama wants to invest $10 billion in early childhood education. All I can say is: “Wow!”. It remains to be seen how much of that will be eaten up by bankers or who knows what else. But even if a fraction of that goes to that important but neglected objective, I will have to say, “Thank you, president Obama”.
